The Spontaneous Pop-Up Display or SPUD is a 24″ portable display. It’s portable because when you don’t need the screen, it collapses into about the size of a book. The SPUD is basically a projector and a screen built into one. It only weighs two pounds and can be used with a variety of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
The problem is the transport and use. To start off, you can’t transport it in your pocket because of its size and weight, so you would need to carry it in your hands or have a bag with you. It would be awkward to use this in a public place such as a coffee shop, and definitely a restaurant. The only place that would make any sense to use it is at the office. At the office, you need portability, say, to present an idea where there is no projector in the conference room. Even that scenario doesn’t occur often. It may not be a good productivity tool but it certainly a fun gadget to take on vacation or use on a camping trip then it is for everyday use.
Even with its small usability, it is a great idea. Sadly, the SPUD isn’t out yet. It is only a Kickstarter campaign. You can support them by clicking here.
